Restore the original art

Debit and credit cards come back with one tap in the Express Transit Card setting; other cards need to be removed from Wallet and added again. Cards changed with AirCard for Windows can also be restored in one click if a backup was made.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Changed with AirCard for Windows: try Restore Original first

    AirCard-Windows v1.2.4 tries to back up the original art on the PC before flashing, but usually can’t read it — “continuing without an original backup” in the log means there’s no backup. In AirCard, make sure Target Card Hash points at the card (pick it from Saved cards). If Restore Original is clickable, click it, then swipe Wallet away in the app switcher and reopen it.

    TipIf the button is greyed out, there’s no backup — use the methods below. The Mac version and AirCard-iOS don’t have this yet.

  2. Step 2: Debit and credit cards: select it once in Express Transit Card

    On the iPhone, open Settings › Wallet & Apple Pay › Express Transit Card and, among the payment cards, tap the card whose art you changed — once is enough — and confirm with Face ID or your passcode when asked. It goes back to the issuer’s official art, with no need to remove it or add it again.

    ImportantOnly debit and credit cards can be restored without deleting the card and adding it again. Transit cards and other cards still need the next step.

    TipSelecting it makes it your Express Transit card; if you don’t want that, switch back to your previous choice afterwards. If the card isn’t in the list, use the next step too.

  3. Step 3: Other cards: remove and add again

    For transit cards and other cards, remove the card from Wallet, then add it again — iOS downloads the official art again.

    ImportantFor transit cards (Suica, PASMO, T-Union…), check how the balance and passes are handled before removing — some cards need a transfer or top-up afterwards.

    TipIf you use this for a bank card, the issuer may need to verify it again.

  4. Step 4: After an iOS update

    An iOS update or a Wallet cache refresh may put the official art back. To keep your custom art, just flash it again. From iOS 27.2 beta 3 on, though, AirCard no longer works.
